Bucks Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday with Big Win

LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Allen Americans 3-2

The Laredo Bucks and the Allen Americans went head to head Friday night, for the first of two back to back games against one another. This was the eleventh meeting between the rivals. The Bucks shut-out the Americans 5-0 last Saturday night in Laredo.

It didn't take long for the gloves to drop Friday night. Only 1:41 into the game, Laredo Buck Trevor Hunt and Allen American Mike Berube dropped the mitts. The game remained physical throughout the first period. However, Allen controlled the opening frame offensively. Jim McKenzie scored for the Americans at 13:36 followed by a powerplay goal by Colton Yellow Horn at 17:50. These goals gave Allen a 2-0 lead to end the period. The Bucks were outshot 14-7 in the first.

The Bucks jumped on the board only 1:39 into the second period. Neil Trimm flipped the puck into the net, thanks to the Allen goaltender being out of his net. Trimm was assisted by Matt Boyd and Greg Moore. The game continued to be a physical one. This time Justin Styffe mixed it up with Mark Nebus. Shortly after Styffe returned to the ice after serving time for a double minor, he dropped the gloves with Dylan King. Laredo took advantage of a powerplay opportunity, when Adam Rivet buried the puck from the point at 14:41. Ryan Sparling and Trevor Hunt assisted on the game tying goal. The period ended with the game knotted up at 2-2. Both teams had 9 shots on goal during the middle frame.

The third period was played very tight by both teams. Ryan Rondeau made a tremendous save at 3:45 in the period. Both teams had powerplay opportunities in the period, but were unable to take advantage of them. The game remained tied until Rusty Masters broke through and scored the game winning goal at 18:06. Adam Rivet and Trevor Hunt assisted on the goal that gave the Bucks a 3-2 lead.

This was the fourth game in a row the Bucks have defeated the Americans. The two teams will be back in action TOMORROW, Saturday, March 3rd at the Laredo Energy Arena at 7:30pm.
