Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

FORT WORTH, Texas- Wylie Rogers was perfect in between the pipes as the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (24-25-7) spoiled the Texas Brahmas (29-19-8) return to Ft. Worth with a 4-0 win on Friday night. Rogers made 28 saves on 28 shots.

Tomas Klempa gave the Bees a 1-0 lead at the 15:01 mark of the first period after beating Texas goalie Mark Guggenberger five-hole from the top of the circles. Mike Wilson and Nicolas Rioux earned the assists on Klempa's 25th goal.

Brandon Campos increased the Bees lead to two at 11:42 of the second period as he backhanded a shot past the Texas goalie. The goal was initially waived off but referee Boone Bruggman quickly realized his error and pointed to the net as the goal light came on.

It looked as the Bees would head to the locker room up by two but with 20 seconds to play in the period Dan Gendur ripped a slap shot from the top of the circles to the back of the net. The goal came as the Bees were shorthanded.

Through two periods Wylie Rogers made 16 saves on 16 shots.

The Killer Bees looked like they might be in trouble at the 4:57 mark of the third period as both Brady Leavold and Wylie Rogers were whistled for penalties at the same time. The Leavold penalty was a double minor giving the Brahmas two minutes of 5-on-3 and two minutes of 5-on-4. The Bees special teams were magnificent killing off all the penalty minutes and for the game held the Brahmas to 0-for-6 throughout the game

Aaron Lee added his 28th goal of the season with three minutes to play to increase the Bees lead to 4-0. Brady Leavold earned an assist on the goal.

The Bees would kill the rest of the clock off keeping the Brahmas away from their end for the win.

Combined with a loss by Tulsa tonight the Bees have vaulted into fourth place in the Berry Conference ahead of Tulsa. The Bees and Brahmas play again tomorrow night at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
