Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Former Sundogs forward David Nimmo had a chance to extend it in round five, but Scott Reid made the clinching save as the Arizona Sundogs topped the Dayton Gems in a shootout by a 4-3 final at Tim's Toyota Center on Friday night.

The win snapped a seven-game winless skid for the Sundogs (17-30-9). It was the first win for new Sundogs coach, David Lohrei.

Craig Macdonald extended the Sundogs lead to 3-1 with an early third period goal, but the Gems (18-25-12) came back to tie it late in regulation. Kyle Bochek's deflection with 4:28 and Brandon Naurato's wrist shot with 2:27 left to play forced overtime.

Macdonald and Kyle Hood scored for Arizona in the shootout while Nick Schneider scored for Dayton.

In their each of their three all-time meetings, the Sundogs and Dayton have gone past regulation to determine a winner. Tonight was Arizona's first win against the Gems.

Dayton knotted the game at 1-1 less than three minutes into period two as Robin Richard's deflected Dustin DeGagne's point shot for his first goal of the season. Olivier Proulx put Arizona back in front after carrying a puck from behind the net and lifting a backhand shot into the net midway through the frame for his seventh of the year and a 2-1, Sundog lead.

Corey Toy opened up the scoring at 4:41 of the first for Arizona.

Scott Reid finished with 30 saves for the win. Dayton's Larry Sterling stopped 37 in the loss.

Neither team tallied a power play goal as the Sundogs went 0-for-1 and the Gems finished 0-for-3.

The Sundogs and Gems close out their season series in a rematch on Saturday. Game time is set for 7:05 PM MST. The action can be heard live on Cattle Country 94.3 FM.
