Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - Jumping out to a three-goal advantage on Thanksgiving Eve, Wichita (6-10-0-1) skated away from Indy (9-5-1-0) by the final score of 5-1 on Wednesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Danick Gauthier led the way with two goals while Andy Huff had a goal an assist. The Thunder snap a four-game losing skid and improve back to .500 at home with the victory (5-5-0-1).
In the first, Huff took a loose puck along the boards and found Brandon Martell streaking in for a one-timer that beat Mac Carruth at 1:52 of the first. The
Thunder took a 1-0 lead into the intermission and doubled the Fuel in shots, 14-7.
The Thunder extended the lead in the second when Kenton Miller skated out of the corner and beat Carruth at 11:57. Wichita struck on the power play at 13:11 as Gauthier roofed it over the glove of Carruth to make it 3-0.
Garett Bembridge put the Fuel on the board at 13:34 of the third period. Carruth went to the bench for an extra attacker and the move paid off as Bembridge tipped in a shot from the blueline to make it 3-1. Wichita answered back less than three minutes later as Huff scored on a breakaway with four minutes left. Gauthier added salt to the wound with a goal :58 seconds later after collecting a beautiful pass from Peter Sakaris and tipped it through Carruth.
Wichita snaps its four-game losing skid and scores its first power play goal in 10 games. Gauthier records his first multi-goal game of the season and potted his third in the last two games. Huff finished with a goal and an assist, giving him goals in back-to-back contests. Miller added his fourth of the season while Sakaris led the way with six shots on net.
