Weekend Preview: IceMen off to Alaska

November 25, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

ALASKAN THANKSGIVING

The Evansville IceMen make their first-ever trip to The Last Frontier for three games against the Alaska Aces. The two teams met for the first time Wednesday in Evansville at the Ford Center, as Alaska jumped out to a 5-0 lead, before winning 6-2. With the victory, Alaska snapped an eight-game skid. The Aces lost their next game 4-2 at Quad City to complete a 1-4-0-1 road trip. The IceMen snapped out of a three-game skid Saturday at the Ford Center with a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo. Evansville arrives in Anchorage late Wednesday and will Thanksgiving Day off, before playing Friday-Sunday at Sullivan Arena against the Aces.

STAY UP LATE AT BAR LOUIE

Bar Louie in Evansville, the official headquarters for IceMen away games, will show all three Alaska games up on their televisions. Coverage will start at 10pm Friday and Saturday, and 5:50pm Sunday. Fans can also watch the games live on ECHL.TV, or listen to the audio-only broadcasts at www.evansvilleicemen.com.

QUITE THE DEBUT

The big story of Evansville's 3-2 win Saturday versus Kalamazoo was the play of new goaltender Cody Reichard. The Celina, OH native arrived in Evansville just two hours before the game and had a memorable debut. Reichard, who started the season on his couch after playing for Indy and Stockton in the ECHL last season, stopped 41 Wings shots in his first IceMen start. He was nominated for the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week.

LEVEILLE LEADS THE WAY

Forward Daultan Leveille had another big week for the IceMen. The St. Catherines, Ontario native recorded four points (two goals, two assists) in three games, including a power-play tally and the game-winning goal against Kalamazoo. Leveille leads all active ECHL players with three game-winners this season. He's tied with Tyson Fawcett for the team-lead in goals (six), and one point ahead of Ryan Penny for the most points (nine) through 13 games. Leveille was nominated for the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week.

WHO'S YOUR DADDY?

Two players on the Aces roster have famous fathers. Forward Liam Stewart is the son of singer Rod Stewart. Instead of following in his dad's musical footsteps, the 21-year-old Stewart has a goal and three assists in his first season of pro hockey. Liam has dual citizenship between England and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Dean Chelios is trying to get to the NHL, where his father Chris Chelios spent 26 seasons. Unlike his dad, who is a Hall of Fame defenseman now coaching with the Detroit Red Wings, the 26-year-old Chelios plays forward for the Aces and is in his second pro season.

CYBER MONDAY

The IceMen are running a Cyber Monday ticket special on Monday, November 30. Keep an eye on the team's social media pages for the details and link to purchase discounted tickets Monday for Evansville's home games on December 2, 4 and 6 at the Ford Center.

The IceMen then welcome Fort Wayne Friday, December 4 in the first meeting of the year with the Komets at 7:15pm.
