Elmira Jackals News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY - November 25, 2015 - C.J. Motte made 23 saves and Kevin Clare was credited with his second goal of the season, but the Jackals were unable to overcome Ken Appleby and the Adirondack Thunder, falling in a tight affair, 2-1.

The Jackals peppered Adirondack and Appleby in the first period, firing 16 shots on goal, but it was the Thunder who struck first. With former Jackal Alexandre Carrier in the penalty box, Greg Wolfe created a shorthanded rush down the right wing side and beat Motte for his third goal of the season at 2:46 of the opening stanza. Minutes later, Nick Petrecki promptly dropped the gloves with Carrier and engaged in a battle of fisticuffs. The Jackals tied the game at 12:47 of the first period with a point shot from Kevin Clare that appeared to deflected by Mark Bennett on the way through traffic and past Appleby. Tyler Currier and Matt Harlow added their first assists of the season. However, the Thunder regained their one-goal advantage just over four minutes later as Mitchell Heard stole the puck at the Jackals blueline and fed it over to Ryan Lomberg who found Louick Marcotte backdoor for the go-ahead goal. Marcotte's sixth of the season proved to be the game-winner as both goaltenders shut the doors the rest of the night.

The dance of gladiators continued in the second period as Garrett Klotz hammered David Shields with a heavy hit and followed it up with a flurry of fists into the Thunder defenseman. Each team had opportunities on the power-play, but neither could sway the score. The best scoring chance of the frame came with the Jackals on the penalty kill as Colin Jacobs received a carom off the end wall in the slot, leaving him with a gapping net, but Appleby was able to scramble back and rob Jacobs of the tying tally.

As the physical play increased during the third period, the goaltenders continued to showcase their abilities, denying each shot coming their way. Motte made a spectacular save late in the period to keep the Jackals' hopes alive on a shorthanded breakaway attempt by Mads Eller. However, on the other end, the Jackals could not put another past Appleby to tie the contest and fell 2-1.

C.J. Motte stopped 23 of 25 shots faced but was saddled with the loss. Ken Appleby stopped 32 of 33 shots faced and earned the win.
