Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals were not able to light the lamp Wednesday night as the Greenville Swamp Rabbits handed them their seventh straight defeat, 6-0, at Scope Arena.

Tonight's meeting marked the beginning of a four-game homestand for Norfolk, as they've posted a better record at home than on the road this season.

Norfolk came into the game leading the ECHL in penalty minutes. Alexandre Ranger and one of the Admirals' newest transaction, Ryan Jasinsky, saw the penalty box early as each received two-minute minors. Both teams dominated the opening period defensively, as the score remained 0-0 at the end of one.

Greenville got off to a fast start just minutes into the second period. After skating behind goal, Greenville forward Michael Kantor sent a pass to center Tyler Elbrecht at the left point. Elbrecht fired a slap shot into the back of the net, giving the Swamp Rabbits a 1-0 lead, 2:48 in the period.

At 8:29 of the middle period, Greenville extended their lead to 2-0 after forward Brain Hart recovered a turnover in the Norfolk end, and fed Kantor right in front of goal.

Just over one minute later, Greenville forward Scott Fleming picked up a loose puck, skated along the right wall, and dished the puck to Richard Nejezchleb on a two-on-one opportunity. Nejezchleb put it past Ty Rimmer 9:25 of the second period, giving the Swamp Rabbits a 3-0 advantage.

Greenville continued their scoring in the final period posting two more goals. Michael Kantor tallied his third point of the game after putting one home past Rimmer. Bretton Cameron dumped the puck off the Scott Fleming behind net, who then found Kantor wide open in from of Rimmer, recording his second goal of the evening 8:05 of third.

Greenville's second third-period goal came on an unassisted break-away opportunity by forward Jack Combs with 9:25 left in the game. After going on the power play at 13:02 of the final period, the Greenville's Ryan Rashid notched his first power play goal of the season. The Swamp Rabbits lit the lamp six times, shutting out Norfolk on the road with a final score of 6-0.

Rimmer was able to save 25 of 31 shots, as P.J. Musico stopped all 31 of the shots sent his direction. Greenville was able to kill all their penalties, and converted on one of their eight man advantages, as Norfolk went 0/3 on power play opportunities.

The Admirals will face the Manchester Monarchs this Friday and Saturday at home. Last weekend, Norfolk faced Manchester in a three-game road series, so the Admirals are very familiar with the Monarchs style of play. Friday night's matchup will be a 7:05 p.m. start time, while the puck drops at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Scope Arena.

Three Stars:

1. GRN 26 Michael Kantor

2. GRN 21 Jack Combs

3. GRN 1 G-P.J. Musico
