Quad City Mallards News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (November 25, 2015) - Carter Verhaeghe scored once and added two assists as the host Missouri Mavericks (14-2-1) scored four unanswered goals on the way to a 4-1 win over the Quad City Mallards (8-7-3) Wednesday night.
The Mavericks stormed back after Alex Gudbranson gave the Mallards the lead just 57 seconds into the game with a drive from the top of right wing circle.
The Mavericks were on the power play when Sebastien Sylvestre pounced on a rebound to tie the score at one at 6:36 of the first.
Verhaeghe broke the deadlock by finishing off a 2-on-1 rush at 10:53 of the second period.
Just 46 seconds into the third period, Tyler Barnes scored a key insurance goal on a breakaway. Jesse Root's power play goal from the high slot capped off the Missouri victory with just under two minutes remaining.
The Mallards next play at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Kalamazoo Wings. Friday will be Blackout Night: the Mallards will celebrate Black Friday by wearing special edition (nearly) all black sweaters against the Wings. Those jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Genesis Health Services Foundation Saturday night following the Mallards' match-up with the Cincinnati Cyclones at the iWireless Center. Friday evening is also a $1 Beer/$1 Dog Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $1 beers at all Mallards' Friday night home games. In addition, Friday is a MetroLINK College Night. The Mallards have once again partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.
