EL1 Chesapeake Baysox

Thunder outhits BaySox, Trenton rolls 3-2

June 7, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release

In a game without much offense, Brian Finch held the Trenton Thunder to one unearned run through seven strong innings but did not get a decision as Nick McCurdy gave up a two run home run to give the home team the 3-2 advantage and eventual win.

Trenton slugged out ten hits while the visiting 'Sox could only muster one double and five singles.

With the bags loaded in the 5th, the Thunder jumped on the board as Ryan Hubele let a Finch pitch through his legs for his eighth passed ball this season.

Bowie came back with one in the 6th and another in the 7th to take a 2-1 lead heading into the 8th.

With two gone in the 6th Leo Daigle, who was 2-for-4 on the evening, lined a double into the left field corner and scored on Tripper Johnson's RBI single into center. An inning later Gera Alvarez led off the frame with another single into center. With two outs Alvarez successfully stole second base which proved to be an excellent move as Cory Keylor reached on a fielding error by Trenton's second baseman, Gabe Lopez. Alvarez scored from second on the play to take the one run lead.

But McCurdy's home run to Shelley Duncan in the bottom of the 8th sealed the Baysox fate as Justin Pope held off the Baysox in the top of the 9th for the win.

The Baysox are now in the midst of a five game skid and sit at 25-32 this season. They have yet to win a game in the month of June.

ON DECK: Trenton and Bowie go head-to-head the next two days before the Bayox return home to face the Binghamton Mets for the first time this season. The Mets, like the Baysox, have had a rough spell falling to 23-35 overall with a 9-21 record in May. The B-Mets currently sit 11.5 games out of first place in the Northern Division.
