Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets sent 12 men to the plate as part of an eight-run eighth inning that helped them knock off the Reading Phillies 8-5 at FirstEnery Stadium Wednesday. The victory snaps Binghamton's three-game losing streak and evens up the series at a game apiece.

Reading (24-33) got on the board in the third, when John Castellano and Matt Padgett reached William Collazo for back-to-back two-out RBI singles to give Reading a 2-0 lead. Those were the only runs Collazo (5-4) allowed in seven innings of work.

Rashad Eldridge began the Binghamton (24-35) half of the eighth with a base hit off Reading starter Daniel Haigwood. After Corey Ragsdale walked and Yunir Garcia struck out, pinch-hitter Jay Caligiuri walked, loading the bases for Bobby Malek. Malek came through with a base hit to left-center, scoring Eldridge and Ragsdale with the tying runs, chasing Haigwood (1-5). Ray Navarrete then reached Brian Reed for a single past the drawn-in infield, scoring Caligiuri and Malek for a 4-2 B-Mets lead. After Jorge Padilla reached with a single, Michel Abreu drove home Navarrete with a single, Andy Wilson's sacrifice fly to center scored Padilla and base hits by Eldridge and Ragsdale drove in Abreu and Eldridge, respectively, for an 8-2 B-Mets advantage.

The Phillies got three runs back in the bottom of the eighth, with Matt Padgett, Angel Chavez and Jason Jaramillo picking up RBI. However, Matt Lindstrom tossed two scoreless innings for his second save in three chances.

Thursday, the B-Mets play the rubber game of their three-game series at Reading. Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 3.41) gets the ball for Binghamton against southpaw Gio Gonzalez (2-5, 3.00) of Reading. Game time is 7:05 from FirstEnergy Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
