Trenton Thunder News Release

Trenton, NJ - The combination of Adam Loewen and Jonathan Diaz at the bottom of the New Hampshire lineup teamed up to produce three runs including the winning run in the top of the tenth inning to beat the Thunder on Tuesday night 4-3 in ten innings at Waterfront Park. With the loss, Trenton falls to an even 9-9 on the year.

It was a pitcher's duel early on as New Hampshire RHP Zach Stewart retired the first 12 batters he faced and David Phelps allowed just one run through five innings pitched. That lone run for the Fisher Cats came in the fourth inning when Jonathan Diaz lofted a single down the left field line to score Adam Loewen and make it 1-0 New Hampshire. Loewen would again reach base in the sixth inning and scored easily on another Diaz single. Loewen stole second base each time he scored.

After Stewart was lifted because of a low pitch count, RHP Bubby Buzachero came in to pitch the bottom of the sixth and immediately coughed up the lead. Along with two errors, Trenton scored three runs on four hits, including a Daniel Brewer triple and an Austin Romine double. However, New Hampshire tied it up at three off LHP Wilkins Arias in the seventh.

The score remained tied at the end of nine innings, but in the top of the tenth, Trenton RHP Grant Duff (0-1) gave up what would be the game winning hit off the bat of Diaz, plating home Loewen.

Diaz finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBI. Phelps gave up one run on five hits and struck out five in five innings for Trenton.

The Thunder and Fisher Cats continue their three game series tomorrow at 7:05PM. RHP Lance Pendleton makes the start for the Thunder, while New Hampshire goes with RHP Bobby Bell.
