New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Trenton, NJ---Jonathan Diaz went 3-for-5 with three, two-out, RBI singles, including the game-winner in the top of the 10th inning, as the Fisher Cats beat Trenton 4-3 at Waterfront Park on Tuesday night.
In the decisive frame, Shawn Bowman (2-for-5) drilled a one-out double but was caught between second and third on a fielders choice grounder by Adam Loewen, who then moved up on a passed ball. Diaz then singled off reliever Grant Duff (0-1) to put the Fisher Cats in front for good. Tim Collins (1-0) worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first win of the season and Danny Farquhar picked up his fifth save working around a walk in the bottom of the tenth inning.
New Hampshire (11-7) scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Loewen (1-for-4, 3 R) beat out a grounder to pitcher David Phelps and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Diaz then put the Fisher Cats up 1-0 with a fly to left field which landed between three Trenton players as Loewen scored.
Diaz delivered again with two-outs in the top of the sixth inning. Loewen walked and stole second. Diaz drilled a base-hit back up the middle off reliever Wilkins Arias to make it 2-0.
Meantime, Fisher Cats starter Zach Stewart set down the first 12 men he faced before allowing a lead-off double to Trenton's Austin Romine in the fifth. It was the only hit Stewart allowed in five innings. He did not walk anyone and struck out five.
Trenton did rally to take the lead in the last of the sixth inning. The Thunder came up with four hits and the Fisher Cats made two errors leading to three runs. Austin Krum, who had singled, scored on a triple by Daniel Brewer. Brewer scored when a ground ball by David Adams was misplayed and then Romine (2-for-3, 2 2B, RBI) knocked in Adams for a 3-2 lead.
New Hampshire came right back with another two-out hit to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning. Darin Mastroianni and David Cooper reached on singles and Brad Emaus drew a walk to load the bases. Eric Thames then singled in Mastroianni to tie the game at 3-3. Cooper went four-for-five for the Fisher Cats with two doubles and two singles.
The series continues Wednesday night at 7:05pm with RHP Bobby Bell (2-1, 7.31) starting for New Hampshire against Trenton RHP Lance Pendleton (1-2, 4.05). Game time is 7:05pm and coverage with Bob Lipman begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
