Thunder Holds Top Spot in Latest CHL Coaches Poll

Wichita, KS (February 15th) - Wichita (27-14-6) remained number one in the latest Sher-Wood Coaches Poll by a narrow margin, holding off the red-hot Fort Worth Brahmas (29-15-5) for the top spot. This marks the second-straight poll the Thunder has been on top as they currently have a two-point lead on the Brahmas, who moved past Allen (27-10-9) into second.

Wichita totaled 85 points in the current poll and Fort Worth ended up with 83. Allen held the top spot for the first half of the season, but dropped down to third place earning one first place vote. The Thunder had five first place votes and Fort Worth claimed four.

The poll is released on or near the beginning and middle of each month throughout the regular season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place votes earn nine, etc. Teams are unable to vote for themselves.

Fort Worth, Denver, Rapid City and Arizona all moved up one spot and the biggest drop came from Bloomington, who fell from fifth to seventh.

Wichita visits Denver tonight in what will be Head Coach Kevin McClelland's 500th game coaching. He began his coaching career in 2005-06 and has spent his entire career in the CHL. McClelland is eight wins shy of reaching 300 for his career. With one more win, he will pass Gary Unger in seventh place all-time with 293 career victories.
