Thunder Get Ten Hits In 2-0 Loss To Akron

(Akron, OH)- The Thunder collected 10 hits in their Thursday afternoon game with the Akron Aeros, but couldn't a run home in a 2-0 loss. Trenton was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position on the afternoon.

The Aeros (41-29) used five pitchers to combine on the 10-hit shutout. Starter Jake Dittler (2-1) worked five innings for the win, allowing six hits and four walks with one strikeout. Trenton (46-24) got hits from their first two batters of the day, Brett Gardner and Carlos Mendoza, but couldn't get either around to score. Akron loaded th bases in the 3rd Inning against Thunder starter Ian Kennedy and got the lead on an RBI groundout by SS Asdrubal Cabrera. Kennedy (3-1) took the loss allowing one run in five innings. It snapped a personal nine-game win streak for the righthander.

The Thunder challenged in the 5th Inning, but had two baserunners thrown out at the plate to keep the Aeros in front. Akron got an insurance run in the 8th Inning with three hits off Jason Jones. 1B Jordan Brown singled to drive in the run. But the Akron bullpen worked the final four innings to close out the win. Trenton loaded the bases in the 8th Inning before Matt Carson grounded out against closer Randy Newsom. The Thunder got two more hits off Newsom in the 9th Inning, but got Gardner to ground out to end the game. It was his 7th save of the season.

Trenton begins a four-game series in Erie, PA on Friday. Game time is 7:05 PM. Joba Chamberlain (1-0, 0.82) starts for Trenton against Erie's Jair Jurrjens (2-2, 3.18).
