Akron Takes Three-Game Series From EL's Best Trenton

June 21, 2007 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON -- The Akron Aeros (41-29) defeated the Trenton Thunder (46-24), who owns the best record in the Eastern League, 2-0 on Thursday afternoon to claim the home three-game series as well as the 2007 season series. A great combined shutout performance by the Akron pitching staff - started by Jake Dittler (2-1) - shut down the Thunder's bats, while the Aeros strung together enough offense for the win.

Akron took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI-ground out by Asdrubal Cabrera, which scored Trevor Crowe. Dittler held the slim advantage through five innings allowing just six hits.

Jeff Stevens, Jim Ed Warden, Mariano Gomez and Randy Newsom combined to pitch the final four scoreless innings, with Newsom closing out the final inning and a third for the save.

In the bottom of the eighth, Akron added an insurance run as Armando Camacaro led off with a single and scored on an RBI-single by Jordan Brown. Camacaro and Cabrera both finished with two hits to lead the Aeros.

Akron will continue the seven-game home stand Friday night by opening a four-game set with the Bowie Baysox. The Friday Fireworks Night at Canal Park is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. with a fireworks show to follow the game, sponsored by Fifth-Third Bank.
