
Defenders Rally Past Sea Dogs, 6-5

(Norwich, CT) - Carlos Sosa blasted a two-out, three-run homer in the seventh inning off Kyle Jackson (3-3), rallying the Connecticut Defenders (28-42) to a 6-5, come-from-behind victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (34-33) on Thursday night at Dodd Stadium. Ryan Sadowksi (1-1) worked an inning and 2/3 scoreless to earn the win and Brian Anderson recorded his 15th save and his 5th against Portland.
Jackson took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in just one and 1/3 innings.
Portland led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs off Dave McKae in the fifth and a run against Justin Hedrick in the sixth inning.
Michael Bowden took a no-decision for the Sea Dogs. The 20-year-old righty pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and two runs (one earned). Bowden retired 11 in a row after stranding the bases loaded in the first inning.
Jeff Natale went 1-for-2 and knocked in two runs for the Sea Dogs. Natale knocked in Portland's first run with a sacrifice fly during a 4-run fifth inning. Dusty Brown delivered a two-run single with two outs later in the frame and Cory Keylor followed with an RBI double.
In the sixth inning, Zach Borowiak reached on an infield single and scored on Natale's two-out RBI single. Connecticut came right back to score twice off Bowden on one hit and two walks.
Jackson suffered his second blown save of the season. He walked Jake Wald to lead off the seventh inning, who advanced to third base on a wild pitch and an error by the catcher. Pat Dobson closed the gap to 5-3 with an RBI single to centerfield. Sosa's homer came after John Bowker's two-out single to left field.
Portland and Connecticut split their four-game series and will meet again next week at Hadlock Field. The 'Dogs are 6-5 against the Defenders this season with all five wins by Connecticut saved by Brian Anderson.
Tonight's game featured a 37-minute rain delay in the fifth inning with Bowden pitching to Jake Wald.

Notes...Portland received a hit from all nine starters and had a base runner in all nine innings...The Sea Dogs finished the series 8-for-30 (.267) with runners-in-scoring position, Connecticut went 4-for-28 (.143).
