Reading, PA -- The Phillies survived some shaky work by their bullpen and held off the Binghamton Mets 8-6 Thursday night to capture the three-game series.

The game featured the Double-A debut of Carlos Carrasco, up from Clearwater where he was a Florida State League all-star. The 20-year-old right-hander, the No. 1 prospect in the system, earned the victory with a solid if unspectacular outing. He allowed a run and four hits in five innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

He threw consistently in the 90s, topping out at 94. He was touched for three straight hits to start the second inning, but escaped with just the one run. He seemed to get his rhythm by the third inning, then fell into some two-out trouble in the fifth when he loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a sharp single that Mike Costanzo did well to keep in the infield. He ended the inning and his night with a groundout.

Carrasco threw 87 pitches, 47 for strikes.

The Phillies, in the meantime, built a two-run lead with the long ball. Peeter Ramos slammed a solo shot in the first, Costanzo a two-run blast in the third, his 14th of the season.

Ramos, who was on base all five times up, doubled in the seventh and scored his third run of the game on Chris Coste's single to center. It became 7-1 on Randy Ruiz's three-run blast to deep left, his 10th of the season. The lead grew to 8-3 on Ramos' second RBI, a single in in the eighth.

The Phillies (34-37) survived a three-run homer to right in the ninth by 18-year-old center fielder Fernando Martinez, the No. 2 prospect in the Mets organization.
