Thunder Fans Most Annoying For Sixth Straight Year

March 10, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- For the sixth consecutive season, Wichita's fans have been voted "Most Annoying" in the CHL as part of the league's annual "Best of the Best" poll.

The distinction is one of four total categories that the Thunder organization placed in. The poll features 46 different categories, ranking the top three in each. Categories were voted on by players, coaches, and media representatives from all 16 CHL teams.

Wichita also had two players honored in the poll. Goaltender Tim Boron finished third in the "Most Underrated Player" category. Had it not been for a season-ending hip injury, Boron's .926 save percentage would rank second in the league, while his 2.59 goals against average would rank sixth. In late December, Boron was honored as the CHL's goaltender of the week as well as earning Performance of the Week honors for his 53-save victory over the Mississippi Riverkings on December 19th.

Second-year left wing Stan Yanchishyn finished third in the "Best Fighter, Pound for Pound" category. Yanchishyn, who is listed at 5 feet 10 inches, 170 pounds, racked up eight fighting majors in 31 games played before being placed on the Season-Ending IR due to an ankle injury. During his rookie season last year, Yanchishyn totaled 150 penalty minutes and 16 fighting majors in 60 games played, which both ranked fourth in the CHL among rookies. Thunder right wing Mike Batovanja placed in this category last season.

Thunder mascot Thunderdog, who celebrated his 16th birthday in January, was voted the second best mascot in the league, finishing behind Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees' mascot "Sir-Sting-A-Lot".
