Bucks Honored In CHL Best of the Best Poll

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks were well represented in the Central Hockey League's annual Best of the Best Poll announced Tuesday. The Bucks appeared in the poll in nine out of 46 categories, including placing first in three of them. The annual poll is voted on by CHL players, General Managers, Coaches, and team communications staffs.
Despite only playing in 39 games this season Jeff Bes was voted into the top three in five different categories, including a first place finish for Best Playmaker. Bes was also voted the second-best overall player, second-best leader, third-best stickhandler, and third smartest player.
Bes finished the season with 60 points (14-46=60) in 39 games before suffering a season ending injury January 26th.
Darryl Smith was voted the league's best rookie, finishing 12 points ahead of Rio's Nic Dumoulin. Smith, who is also a finalist for rookie of the year, has 65 points (34-31=65) for the Bucks. Smith's 34 goals are currently tied for the league lead.
The Bucks placed first in the Best Host Hotel Category, with Laredo's La Posada beating out the Fort Collins Marriott (Colorado Eagles) by 10 points in the voting. La Posada is in their second season as the Bucks host hotel.
For the second straight season the Bucks Booster Club, the Trophy Hunters, was voted the third-best in the CHL.

The Bucks continue their four game road trip this weekend in Amarillo and Texas.

*Smith Finalist For Rookie Of The Year*
The CHL announced Monday that Darryl Smith has been named a finalist for the rookie of the year award. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and selected media members to determine the recipient of the award.
Smith has had a stellar year for the Bucks, winning the All-Star Game MVP Award, leading all CHL rookies in scoring, being tied for the league-lead in goals scored, and earning a player of the week nod in December.
Entering Tuesday Smith has 34 goals, 31 assists for 65 points. Smith leads the Bucks with eight game-winning goals.
The Rookie of the year will be announced before the end of the regular season.
