Colt King Rules Over CHL's Annual Best of the Best

March 10, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage's Colt King was voted the Central Hockey League's Best Bodychecker, Best Fighter (Heavyweight), and Best Power Forward by the league's coaches, players, and operational staff in the CHL's annual Best of the Best poll which was released today.

Teams provided three top choices for each category. First place votes counted five points, second place votes counted three points, and third place votes counted one point.

King dominated the poll's "physical" categories, earning more votes than Stephen Margeson (MIS) and Tyler Fleck (OKC) as the league's top bodychecker and knocking out Ryan Tobler (COL) and Brett Angel (BOS) as the CHL's top heavyweight.

Couple his wins in those two categories with his status as the Rage's leading scorer (61 pts - 15th in the CHL), and it makes perfect sense that the former 4th-round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche also tied with Joel Irving (ARZ) as the top power forward in the league. King's prowess certainly gets under the skin of opponents at times, garnering him recognition as the league's third Most Annoying Player.

Joining King in the ranks of the league's Best of the Best is Rage captain Daymen Rycroft. Last season's leading goal scorer in the CHL finished third in the voting for Best Skater.

The Rage organization finished in the top three in several other categories, as well:

Best Training/Equipment Staff (Athletic Trainer Osama Kassab, Equipment Manager Patrick Stevens) - 2nd

Best Team Ice (Ice Manager Enrique Villarreal) - 2nd

Best Press Box - 2nd

Best Web site - 2nd

Best City (Broomfield) - 3rd
