Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the third period to knock off the Texas Brahmas 2-1 on Tuesday night at the NyTex Sports Centre. Bossier-Shreveport's third straight win against Texas got them back within five points of Northeast Division leader Mississippi and also ended the Brahmas' league best 16-game home winning streak.

Joe Blaznek and Neil Clark scored the big third period goals as Bossier-Shreveport took the lead at 5:47 of the third period and never gave it up. Ken Carroll made 21 saves in the contest, including a number of big ones to preserve the lead late as he improved to 29-6-2 this year. The Mudbugs finish the ten-game season series with a 4-4-2 record against the Brahmas this season.

The teams played an up-tempo first period that ended scoreless. Bossier-Shreveport outshot Texas 10-6 in the first 20 minutes, but went 0 for 2 on the powerplay. The Brahmas also missed on a pair of first-period powerplay chances. The best scoring chance of the period came when Travis Clayton found Dale Lupul cutting in from the point on the weak side, but Brett Jaeger got his left pad across to stop Lupul's redirection and keep the game scoreless.

Neither team generated many scoring chances early in the second and shots were just 3-2 for Texas mid-way through the period. The Brahmas then broke through on the powerplay when Craig Minard set up Travis Banga's goal at 10:29 to give Texas a 1-0 advantage. Both goaltenders were forced to make big saves to close out the period and the score stayed 1-0 Brahmas into the third.

With the Mudbugs on a 4-on-3 powerplay early in the final period, Blaznek tucked in a rebound in front after Travis Clayton deflected Dale Lupul's shot from the point to tie the game at one. Then the ‘Bugs took the lead when Mark Johnson won a faceoff back to Dave Pszenyczny, who fired a long shot through traffic. The shot didn't make it on goal, but after hitting J.J. Martin, the puck squirted free to Clark, who tucked it in on his backhand to put the Mudbugs ahead. Texas had a number of great scoring chances later in the period, but Carroll held them off the board. In the closing seconds, Carroll stoned Tyler Skworchinski cutting into the slot with a left pad save to finish off the 2-1 victory.

Brett Jaeger played well for the Brahmas in defeat, stopping 26 shots as the ‘Bugs outshot Texas 28-22. Bossier-Shreveport finished 1 for 6 on the powerplay, while Texas was 1 for 7.

Up next for the Mudbugs is a pair of games in Southaven, Mississippi against the RiverKings on Friday and Saturday night. After facing Mississippi on back-to-back nights, the ‘Bugs will return home Sunday to take on Rio Grande Valley at 4:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center. Friday night the ‘Bugs and ‘Kings will faceoff at 7:05 pm with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 on 710 AM KEEL. The game can also be seen live online through the CHL Network.
