Trenton Thunder News Release
(Harrisburg, PA)- Harrisburg RF Garrett Guzman hit two home runs as the Senators defeated the Thunder 7-3 on Thursday night at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg, PA. Trenton finished 2-4 on its road trip, and have now dropped seven of its last nine games.
Harrisburg (39-31) jumped out early against Thunder starting pitcher Phil Coke (4-3) in the first inning. With two outs and Harrisburg CF Roger Bernadina at 2nd base, C Luke Montz delivered an RBI double to plate the first run of the game. The Senators extended the lead to 3-0 in the 3rd inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Guzman grounded a ball up the middle that went off of the glove of Thunder 2B Reegie Corona and into center field. Two runs scored on the error by Corona. The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 4th inning on a solo home run by Harrisburg LF Mike Daniel. Trenton (43-28) got a run back in the 5th inning on an RBI groundout by Corona. But Guzman connected on the first of his two home runs, a solo shot off of Coke in the bottom half of the inning, to restore a 5-1 lead. The Thunder battled back again with two runs in the 6th inning. RBI singles by 1B Cody Ehlers and C P.J Pilittere cut the deficit to 5-3. Guzman though would put the game out of reach. His second home run, a two-run dinger off of Thunder reliever Mark Melancon, gave Harrisburg a 7-3 lead.
Coke suffered his second straight loss for Trenton. He gave up 5 H and 5 R (4 ER) in 6 IP, including 2 HR. The three combined home runs allowed by Coke and Melancon, were the most home runs given up by the Thunder in one game this season. Zimmerman (2-1) earned the win for the Senators. He yielded only 2 H and 1 ER in 5 IP. Pilittere went 3 x 4 with a R and an RBI. He had three of Trenton's five hits.
Trenton returns home on Friday to start a three-game series against the Binghamton Mets, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Eric Hacker (1-0, 2.66) starts for Trenton against Binghamton RHP Jose Sanchez (6-4, 4.37).
