Aerodynamics...

Goose Egg...After hitting .355 as a team and averaging 8.4 runs per game on their recent 10-game winning streak, the Aeros have taken up a new way of winning in this series between the top two teams in the Southern Division. Akron's pitching staff blanked the Baysox 4-0 last night, taking over sole possession of first place for the first time this season. Aeros LHP Scott Lewis started and worked five shutout innings, scattering four hits and one walk while striking out two. The biggest jam he had to escape came in the first inning, as Jonathan Tucker led off with a single. Lewis came back to strike out Carlos Rojas though, and C Chris Gimenez then caught Tucker trying to steal second for the second out. Lou Montanez and Jeff Nettles followed with singles, but Lewis got Nolan Reimold to pop out to end the threat. Lewis also avoided trouble after a two-out double in the fifth by Blake Davis. RHP J.D. Martin came on for the next three innings and was superb, allowing just two hits and striking out five, and picking up his third hold of the year. RHP Scott Roehl struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to polish off Akron's sixth shutout of the year, and the first since a 4-0 win over Erie May 23rd.

Timely Hitting...The Aeros scored three of their runs with two out and took advantage of Bowie miscues to get on the board to support the shutout. With two away in the second inning, DH Matt Whitney walked and went to second on a wild pitch by Bowie starter Chris Tillman. Stephen Head brought him home with an RBI single to center to make it 1-0, and it would remain a one-run margin until LF Trevor Crowe led off the eighth by drawing a walk and moved to second on a passed ball by catcher Brian Peterson. A groundout by 2B Josh Rodriguez moved Crowe to third, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by C Chris Gimenez. CF Jose Constanza drove in another two-out run with an RBI single in the ninth that put runners on the corners, and the Aeros scored their final run when reliever Felix Romero threw wildly on a pickoff attempt, allowing Brandon Chaves to score from third. Chaves was the only Aero with multiple hits, as he went 3-4.

Three Starts, Three Wins...Scott Lewis has gotten off to a tremendous start since joining the Aeros after spending the first two months of the season in Winter Haven, Fla., recovering from a strained left lat muscle he suffered toward the end of spring training. In three starts with Akron, the left-hander is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA and has struck out 10 and walked just one in 16.2 innings. The former Ohio State Buckeye was 7-9 with a 3.68 ERA as an Aero last season, and in 2006 the Tribe's 2004 3rd-round pick led all of minor league baseball with a 1.48 ERA.

Did You Know...The Aeros are 24-5 when they score first, but have done so in only 43 percent of their games.
