Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Senators got strong starting pitching from RHP Jordan Zimmermann and a pair of home runs from Garrett Guzman in a 7-3 win over the Trenton Thunder, Thursday at Commerce Bank Park. With the win, the Senators also won the three-game series.
Zimmermann pitched five innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk. He struck out three and picked up the victory.
The Senators jumped ahead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Roger Bernadina singled, stole second and scored on a two-out RBI double by Luke Montz to take a 1-0 lead.
Harrisburg plated two more in the 3rd inning. They loaded the bases with nobody out, then Guzman bounced what appeared to be a double-play ball to second, but it was misplayed and two runs scored on the play to make it 3-0. That was all the Senators would get in the inning.
Mike Daniel led off the bottom of the 4th with a mammoth solo home run to right-center to expand the lead to 4-0.
Trenton got on the board in the top of the 5th on an RBI groundout by P.J. Pilittere to cut it to 4-1.
In the bottom of the 5th, Guzman lined a solo homer to right to make it 5-1.
The Thunder turned a pair of walks into a pair of runs in the top of the 6th. Cody Ehlers and Pilittere each hit RBI singles to cut it to 5-3.
Guzman landed the knockout blow in the bottom of the 7th. With two out, he hammered a two-run homer to right to make it 7-3. Adam Carr delivered a scoreless 9th to close out the game.
Zimmermann (2-1) picked up the win, his first since May 11th. LHP Phil Coke (4-3) took the loss for Trenton.
The Senators improved to 39-31. Trenton fell to 43-28.
The Erie SeaWolves come to Commerce Bank Park for a three-game weekend series starting Friday. Harrisburg RHP Adrian Alaniz (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his second career Double-A start and will be opposed by Erie RHP Ben Fritz (2-2, 5.66 ERA).
