SeaWolves fall in a tight one

The SeaWolves fell 3-2 on Thursday night on a run in the bottom of the ninth inning at NYSEG Stadium against the Binghamton Mets. The loss broke Erie's streak of three consecutive series victories.

The B-Mets struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning against Erie starter Andrew Kown. With one out, Caleb Stewart singled for his second hit of the game. Ambiorix Concepcion followed with a two-run home run that hooked around the foul pole in left field, giving the Mets a 2-0 lead. The home run for Concepcion was his seventh.

Erie would get on the board in the top of the fifth against Binghamton starter Tobi Stoner. Dusty Ryan led off the inning and connected on his 12th home run of the season. The solo-shot made it a 2-1 game in favor of the Mets. Ryan has now homered in four of the last five games.

The score remained the same until the top of the ninth inning. Kody Kirkland stepped in and connected on a solo home run over the wall in left to tie the game at 2-2. The home run for Kirkland was his fifth.

Kown came out to work in the bottom of the ninth inning and retired Mike Carp for the first out. Caleb Stewart doubled off the wall to give the Mets the winning run in scoring position. The ‘Wolves then intentionally walked Concepcion to set up a potential double play ball. Salomon Manriquez stepped in an grounded a ball to third base. On the play, Kirkland gloved the ball but on a one-hopper to second, no outs were recorded and Stewart came in to score the winning run.

Despite taking the loss, Kown (4-8) was stellar for the ‘Wolves tossing a complete game, his first of the season. He went 8.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
