
Thunder fall to Binghamton 8-5

(Binghamton, NY)- Binghamton scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and went on for an 8-5 win over Trenton on Tuesday night from NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, NY. The game was called after 5 1/2 innings because of rain.
With Trenton (6-4) on top 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Binghamton (6-4) erupted for the seven runs. Binghamton loaded the bases with no outs against Eric Hacker on a catcher's interference call, a single, and a walk. Hacker struck out Binghamton Third baseman Shawn Bowman for the first out. But, he forced in a run on a bases-loaded walk to Binghamton First baseman Lucas Duda to cut the Trenton to 3-2. An error by Trenton Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci on a ground ball off the bat of Binghamton Left fielder tied the game at 3-3. Binghamton Second baseman Matt Bouchard followed with a single to give Binghamton a 4-3 lead. Binghamton Shortstop Ruben Tejada followed with a two-run double to make it 6-3. The final two runs of the frame came home on a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly hit by Binghamton Center fielder Emmanuel Garcia. The seven runs were the most that Trenton has allowed in an inning this season, and the most Binghamton has scored in an inning.
Trenton scored three runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Trenton Catcher Francisco Cervelli connected on a two-run home run off of Binghamton Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini (2-0) to put Trenton on top 2-1. The home run was Cervelli's first as a member of the Thunder, and the second straight game in which a Thunder player has hit a home run. The Thunder scored the third run of the inning on an RBI double by Designated hitter Chris Malec. Malec had three hits in the loss, and Cervelli collected two hits.
Hacker allowed five hits and eight runs (five earned) over four innings to take loss. Antonini yielded seven hits and four runs in five innings.
Trenton finishes its road trip on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, NY. George Kontos (0-1, 3.86) will start for Trenton against Binghamton RHP Dylan Owen (0-1, 9.00). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
