EL1 Chesapeake Baysox

Baysox and Erie Suspended

April 21, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release

BOWIE, Md. - The Baysox and the Seawolves only managed to play just under three innings of baseball before the rains washed out another night of baseball at Prince George's Stadium Tuesday. The SeaWolves were leading 3-2 as Paco Figueroa led off the inning with a walk, but the umpires pulled the two teams off the field shortly thereafter due to torrential rains and fierce lightning. The game will resume at 11:05 a.m. and will be followed by a seven inning game 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.

Erie got on the board first when Maxwell Leon took Baysox starter Jake Arrieta the opposite way for a two-run homer in the first inning. The Baysox answered back in the bottom of the frame when Miguel Abreu snapped a 1-19 slump when he laced a two out, two-run single to tie the game at two.

The SeaWolves got to Arrieta for another run in the second. Jeff Frazier led off the inning with a double down the line in left, and Alex Avila followed with a double of his own down the right field line to put Erie back on top.

That was all the baseball Mother Nature would allow for the night, as the rain moved in and suspended the game after a long delay.

Melvin Dorta will hit with a count of 0-2 and Paco Figueroa will be standing on first base when play resumes. The two teams will play the game out to seven innings, and will be followed by another seven inning game shortly thereafter.
