
Thunder Down Harrisburg in Series Opener

Trenton, NJ - Jose Gil ripped a double off LHP Ross Detwilier in the first inning to lead the Thunder to a 4-1 win over Harrisburg on Thursday night from Waterfront Park. Daniel Brewer added a two-run double in the second and Edwar Gonzalez hit a homerun in the eighth to pace Trenton (48-31) in the win.
Facing LHP Ross Detwiler, the Thunder earned a run in the first, as Detwiler (0-1) issued consecutive walks to Austin Romine and Brandon Laird. Jose Gil delivered with an RBI double. An inning later, a two-run double from Daniel Brewer to left field made it 3-0 in favor of Trenton at the end of two innings.
RHP Cory Arbiso made his fourth start of the season and allowed one run, which came in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Tim Pahuta to cut Trenton's lead to 3-1. Arbiso, filling in for David Phelps who was promoted to Triple-A before the game, tossed four innings and allowed one run on six hits in a no decision.
The Thunder came away with another run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Edwar Gonzalez belted a solo home run to center field off RHP Hassan Pena. It was Gonzalez's third homer of the year, and Trenton went into the ninth inning with a 4-1 lead.
J.B. Cox (1-0) earned the win with two shutout innings of relief. Keven Whelan followed with two scoreless of his own before handing the ball to Ryan Pope in the ninth inning. Pope tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season.
Trenton and Harrisburg continue their series on Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Lance Pendleton will go for Trenton, and Harrisburg will start RHP Andrew Kown.
