Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Calvin Maduro scattered four hits over 7 2/3 shutout innings to lead the Thunder to a 4-0 win over Binghamton on Friday night. The Thunder tie their season-high with a current six-game win streak.
Maduro (3-1) allowed just four singles on the night with one walk and four strikeouts. Michael Brunet finished the game with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. The win for Trenton (68-64) marked the seventh time in franchise history that the Thunder picked up back-to-back shutouts. It was the first time since May 25 & 26, 2004 that Trenton had accomplished the feat.
The Thunder took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning on a bases loaded walk to RF Bronson Sardinha against Mets starter Luz Portobanco. Trenton loaded the bases in the 3rd Inning and scored a run on a sacrifice fly by 3B J.T. Stotts for a 2-0 lead. SS Ramiro Pena lined a single to score a run for a 3-0 lead. Portobanco (2-11) allowed three runs on five hits in three innings. He walked four and struck out four.
Binghamton (58-74) managed just five hits on the night, but put two men on base in the 9th Inning. Justin Pope came on and struck out Mets SS Corey Ragsdale to end the game and pick up his 26th save.
The Thunder and Mets play a "day-night" doubleheader on Saturday. The day game starts at 1:35 PM with Jeff Karstens (11-11, 4.03) on the mound for Trenton against Binghamton's Bryan Edwards (5-5, 3.49). The second game, starting at 7:05 PM, will have Ben Julianel (4-2, 3.92) on the hill for the Thunder against the Mets' Tim McNab (1-4, 6.29).
