Bautista Selected to E.L. All-Star Team

The Eastern League today announced its 2005 All-Star Team and recently departed third baseman Jose Bautista was the Altoona Curve's lone representative on the squad. Bautista, who was promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, hit .283 with 23 HR and 90 RBI in 117 games for the Curve this season. The 24-year old also participated in the E.L. Mid-Season All-Star Game in Portland and the MLB Futures Game in Detroit.

Other members of the 2005 E.L. All-Star Team are: C Mike Jacobs (Binghamton), 1B Shelley Duncan (Trenton), 2B Dustin Pedroia (Portland), SS Hanley Ramirez (Portland), OF Dan Ortmeier (Norwich), OF Chris Roberson (Reading), OF Alex Romero (New Britain), UTIL Don Kelly (Erie), DH Randy Ruiz (Reading), RHP Joel Zumaya (Erie), LHP Jon Lester (Portland) and reliever Edwin Almonte (Erie).

The Curve will open a six-game homestand with the first of three games against the first-place Akron Aeros (Cleveland Indians) Friday night at Blair County Ballpark. Altoona (69-63) enters Friday's action in a second-place tie with the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles) in the race for the second and final playoff spot in the E.L. South with just 10 game remaining in the regular season.
