August 26, 2005 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Two days after accomplishing a Major League first, former Binghamton Mets first baseman/catcher Mike Jacobs has been named to the Eastern League All-Star Team. Called up from Binghamton to the New York Mets last Wednesday in the middle of a 22-game hit streak, Jacobs is currently fourth in the EL in hitting (.321), tied for third in home runs (25) and first in RBI (93). The seventh-year slugger is the first B-Met since Rob Stratton and Earl Snyder in 2000 to hit 20 or more homers in a season and finished seven RBI shy of becoming only the second B-Met with 100 in a season (Chris Saunders, 105 - 1996). He was also named the starting catcher for the Northern Division in the Eastern League All-Star Game last month in Portland, ME. The San Diego, CA native has continued his torrid hitting at the Major League level, hitting .500 with four homers and nine RBI in five games with the Mets. On Sunday, Jacobs became the 90th player in Major League history to homer in his first Major League at-bat, when he connected on a three-run, pinch-hit homer vs. Washington. After a two-homer game at Arizona Wednesday, he became the first player in history to hit four homers in the first four days of his Major League career. Jacobs was a 39th-round pick of the Mets in the 1999 draft. Tonight, the B-Mets begin a seven-game road trip with a 7:05 contest at Waterfront Park against the Trenton Thunder. After a day-night doubleheader Saturday and a day game Sunday at Trenton, the B-Mets will continue their trip with a three-game series at New Hampshire starting Tuesday.
