New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(PORTLAND) - Portland center fielder Matt Van Der Bosch laid down a suicide squeeze with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring David Murphy with the winning run in the Sea Dogs 4-3 win over New Hampshire Friday night. The first place Sea Dogs (72-61) snapped a four-game losing streak, and won their 12th in a row over New Hampshire. Portland has taken 16 of the 20 meetings with New Hampshire this season.
In the 9th inning, reliever Jesse Carlson (3-2) walked Murphy, and then hit catcher Jim Buckley who was trying to lay down a bunt. Third baseman Chad Spann laid down a bunt off reliever Ryan Houston to move the runners to second and third. New Hampshire intentionally walked Chris Durbin to get to Van Der Bosch.
Randy Beam (2-3), Portland's third pitcher, worked two shutout innings to earn his second win.
The Fisher Cats (66-67) took a 1-0 lead on catcher Curtis Thigpen's double scoring Ron Acuna in the second inning. New Hampshire had a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning on an Acuna double, and an RBI single by first baseman Chip Cannon.
Portland picked up runs on Chris Durbin's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning, and on Brandon Moss's fielders choice and Jeremy West's double play ball in the sixth inning.
With the loss, New Hampshire falls 6 games behind the first place Sea Dogs, and 2-1/2 games behind second -place Trenton, which won 4-0 over Binghamton.
The Fisher Cats will throw right hander Casey Janssen (3-3, 2.98) tomorrow night against Portland southpaw Jon Lester (9-6, 2.86). Game time is 6:20pm, with live coverage on the Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy beginning at 6:10pm.
