Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City..A three-run home run by Greg Porter in the eighth inning propelled Wichita to a 4-3 win over the Explorers Sunday at Lewis and Clark Park.

Porter's home run, his 16th of the year, came with nobody out off relief pitcher Tyler Meigs.

The home run enabled Wichita to come from behind to win after the Explorers had taken a 2-0 lead after six innings on two RBI single by the X's first baseman Jason Colson.

Wichita had cut the lead to 2-1, scoring a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Mike Thompson. That came off Explorers starter Ty Marotz, who pitched seven innings, but received a no-decision.

The Explorers had the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, but scored only one run when Derek Schmerhorn hit into a double play. With the tying run at second and two outs, Dustin Jones grounded to second base for the final out of the game.

It was the 17th one-run loss for the Explorers this season and the 11th loss to Wichita in 13 games.

Defensively, the Explorers turned four double plays behind Marotz, the fourth time this season that Sioux City has turned four double plays in a game.

The Explorers will open up a three-game series Monday against El Paso at Lewis and Clark Park starting at 7:05.
