Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

SHREVEPORT, La. - JB Tucker and Matt Green made a good combination on Sunday night, as the Grand Prairie AirHogs catcher hit a three-run homer as part of a 3-for-3 night, and his battery-mate Matt Green pitched seven solid innings, allowing only two runs while striking out eight, giving the AirHogs a two-out-of-three series win with a 7-2 win over the Shreveport-Bossier Captains in front of 1,016 at Fair Grounds Field.

Tucker's second-inning blast to left on a 2-0 count gave the AirHogs (39-39, 16-14 2nd half) a 3-0 lead against lefty Logan Williamson (8-5), who was knocked out of the game in the fifth inning for the third straight start. After a scoreless third, Javier Brito led off the fourth with a solo homer to left-center, the team-leading seventh home run Williamson has allowed this season.

The fifth inning turned out to be Williamson's undoing again, as he allowed a one-out walk to Cesar Nicolas. After a flyout by Mike Conroy, Brito and Chad Gabriel hit back-to-back RBI doubles before a walk to Tucker. Then Thomas Incaviglia, a pitcher on the roster but forced into the designated hitter role in this game, bounced a single through the left side to bring in the seventh run of the night and knock out Williamson. The lefty was charged with six earned runs on eight hits, with four walks and two strikeouts.

Green (5-5) scattered six hits through the first six innings, facing two men on in a frame just twice. In the seventh, he ran out of gas, hitting Bryan Sabatella with one out, before a single by Richard Paz, a wild pitch and a two-out single by Jose Torres put the Captains (38-39, 16-13) on the board. But Green got Selwyn Langaigne to fly out to end the inning.

Shreveport-Bossier got another runner on in the eighth and two in the ninth, but never pushed another runner even as far as third.

Despite the loss, the Captains stayed two games behind Pensacola in the South Division second half standings, as the Pelicans lost to Fort Worth on Sunday.

Notes: Eight of the nine Captains hitters had at least one hit, with Paz and Kevin Griffin each picking up two...Both teams left 12 men on base...Incaviglia, who was a hitter in college, is the nephew of AirHogs manager Pete Incaviglia...Only the top three hitters in the Captains order did not strike out at least once.

The Shreveport-Bossier Captains continue their six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Fort Worth Cats, starting on Monday, August 10 at 7:05 p.m. All fans get free admission to the park on Cumulus Radio Listener Appreciation Night. It is also Jose Cuervo Presents Margarita Monday, with half-priced margaritas throughout the game.
