Fryer leads Cats past Pelicans 10-3

PENSACOLA, Fla - Brian Fryer drove in a season-high four runs as the Cats whipped the Pelicans 10-3 on Sunday night in Pensacola.

Kelley Gulledge gave the Cats the lead in the second inning as John Allen led off the frame with a double and then came into score on a Gulledge run-scoring single to left. Later in the inning, Brian Fryer doubled to right with the bases loaded, scoring two for a 3-0 Cats lead.

Fort Worth added a run in the third inning as Allen once again led off the inning with a double and came in to score on a Gulledge sacrifice fly.

Allen reached again to start the fifth inning and eventually came in to score as Gulledge bounced into a double play.

Pelicans third baseman Adam Deleo smacked his first career home run in the fifth inning to put Pensacola on the board.

The Cats would score five runs in the eighth to break the game open. In the inning, Matt Combs and Cameron Blair each had RBI doubles. Fryer and Allen each contributed run-scoring singles as the Cats established a 10-1 lead.

Joel Kirsten (9-4) became the second pitcher in the American Association this season with nine wins as he went seven strong inning, permitting a run on six hits with five strikeouts. Ulysses Roque, making his first start of the season for Pensacola allowed three runs on four hits in two innings of work to drop to 4-5 on the year.

With two hits in the game, Fryer extended his hitting streak to 22 games.

The Cats six-game road trip continues with a three-game series in Shreveport beginning on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Jae Jung (5-3) will start for Fort Worth in the opener.
