Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Syracuse, New York - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (30-28) offense was in full stride as they pounded out 12 hits and three homers en route to a 9-6 win over the Syracuse Mets (23-36) on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
Danny Mendick swatted a leadoff homer in the last of the first to start the scoring for the Mets, but the IronPigs equalized right away in the top of the second on a John Hicks sacrifice fly.
Weston Wilson hit a solo homer in the third, his 14th of the season, to put the IronPigs ahead but the Mets evened the score in the bottom half of the inning with a Tyler White RBI single.
Darick Hall put the IronPigs ahead for good in the fifth. He crushed a three-run homer, his first of the season, to put the IronPigs up 5-2.
In the sixth, John Hicks extended the lead with a three-run homer of his own, his second of the season, before Hall drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
Syracuse got three runs in the sixth on a two-run homer from Jonathan Arauz and a solo homer from Carlos Cortes. The Mets clawed back one more on a Nick Meyer sacrifice fly, but Ben Bowden (S, 2) spun a scoreless ninth, striking out two to lock down the 9-6 win for the IronPigs.
Trey Cobb (2-1) worked a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and striking out one to earn the win for the IronPigs.
