Three Home Games This Week, Bears Chase History
March 22, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club head into the final three weeks of the regular season, having already clinched a 2010 Calder Cup playoff spot and East Division title. With ten games remaining in the regular season, the Chocolate and White now hope to clinch the AHL's best point total, assuring the club home-ice throughout the postseason.
HERSHEY continues a four-game homestand this Friday night against the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m., with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins coming in for the final time this season Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Binghamton makes its final Giant Center appearance of the season Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for both home games are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
A new Chocolate standard: HERSHEY on Friday set a new franchise record by winning its 52nd game of the season. The 52 wins eclipsed Bruce Boudreau's team record of 51 wins set during the 2006-07 season. The BEARS defeated the Albany River Rats 8-2 Friday night to set the new franchise mark.
The streak ends Sunday: The BEARS lost on Sunday for the first time in 25 home games, falling to the Adirondack Phantoms 4-3 at Giant Center. HERSHEY'S last loss at home came on November 28, 2009, ironically against Adirondack as well. HERSHEY also lost for the first time this season when leading after two periods. The BEARS were a perfect 40-0-0-0 this season when leading after two before Adirondack's third period comeback.
Practice schedule: The BEARS will practice Wednesday and Thursday this week at 10:00 a.m., with media availability after each skate at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Chasing history: With ten games to go, the BEARS are four wins short of tying an American Hockey League record for the most wins in a single season. The Binghamton Rangers, who won 57 during the 1992-93 season, are the current record holders. The Rangers also hold the all-time points record in a single season at 124. The BEARS enter Friday's home game with Worcester with 109.
The big three, with 100+:: HERSHEY'S top line of Andrew Gordon, Keith Aucoin and Alexandre Giroux now have over 100 goals between them this season. Gordon, who picked up four in his last two games, now has 36 this season. Giroux leads the team with 37, and Aucoin has a career-high 34. Giroux and Aucoin are also one-two in the AHL scoring race with three weeks to go in the regular season.
