The Manitoba Moose split Week 25 with the Grand Rapids Griffins after dropping a 4-3 loss on Friday night followed by a 4-0 shutout victory on Sunday afternoon. In total, the Moose notched four powerplay goals in their two-game set against the Griffins while stopping 11 of 11 opposing man-advantages. The Moose sit in fourth place with 74 points -- just four points back of the second place Rochester Americans but also just five points ahead of both the fifth and sixth place Lake Erie Monsters and Toronto Marlies.

Friday, March 19, 2010: Manitoba 3, Grand Rapids 4 The Manitoba Moose dropped a divisional battle on Friday night when they sacrificed a 4-3 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins in front of 8,800 fans at MTS Centre. Brian Salcido, Sergei Shirokov and Mario Bliznak all scored for Manitoba while Cory Schneider stopped 22 of 26 shots in his 21st loss this season.

Sunday, March 21, 2010: Manitoba 4, Grand Rapids 0 The Manitoba Moose earned their fourth shutout of the season when they blanked the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-0 in front of 12,851 fans at MTS Centre on Sunday afternoon. Newcomers Jordan Schroeder and Kevin Clark both scored their first professional goals in their professional debuts while veteran defenceman Lawrence Nycholat notched his fourth marker of the season. Goaltender Cory Schneider stopped all 37 opposing shots for his fourth shutout this campaign.

Moose Notes

POWERPLAY POPS: In Sunday's 4-0 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Moose went three-for-five on the powerplay. The last time the Moose notched three man-advantage markers was back on December 6, 2009 when the club went three-for-nine against the IceHogs. As a result of Sunday's performance, Manitoba has jumped to 26th on the AHL powerplay chart at 14.1 percent.

BIG SAVE SCHNEIDER: Cory Schneider stopped all 38 shots faced in Sunday's 4-0 win over Grand Rapids to earn the club's fourth shutout of the season, 74th in franchise history and 12th of Schneider's AHL career. The last time the Moose and Schneider shutout an opponent was on Jananuary 13, 2010 in Abbotsford (3-0W). However, the last time the Moose blanked their opposition at home was back on December 18 vs. Lake Erie (1-0W). The most shutouts Manitoba has ever posted in a single season was eight in 2005-06, led by that season's league shutout leader Wade Flaherty, who earned six in 49 games played.

FIRST-TIMERS MAKE IMPRESSION: Newcomers Jordan Schroeder and Kevin Clark made a lasting impression in their first professional hockey games. Schroeder, who was drafted in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft scored two goals in his professional debut. His game opening goal also proved to be the game-winner. Clark, a Winnipeg native, made his debut on Sunday afternoon and scored his first professional goal in the first period. He finished the night with two shots on a net and a +1 rating. Combined, the rookies played 21:17 of ice-time in the victory.

Upcoming Opponents

The Manitoba Moose will close-out their four-game home set with the Hamilton Bulldogs by hosting a doubleheader at MTS Centre starting Tuesday night. So far this season, the Moose are 2-1-1-0 against the first place club in the North Division. Historically, they hold a 25-36-3-5 record against the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate (17-13-1-3 on home ice). Moose sniper Sergei Shirokov his club with six points (3g, 3a) against the Bulldogs while Cory Schneider has appeared in all four games against Hamilton this campaign (2-2-0, 3.18 GAA, 0.904 SV%).

For the first time this season, Jordan Schroeder is nominated for AHL Player of the Week... The centreman signed an ATO with Manitoba on March 20, 2010... He appeared in his first professional game on March 21st vs. the Griffins... On his first shift, the Burnsville, Minnesota native scored 1:51 into the game to open the scoring on the powerplay... He then notched his second-ever professional goal 19:28 into the third period... He finished the night with four shots on net and a +3 rating...
