March 22, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - A packed Cherry Bowl helped the Rockford IceHogs Charitable Foundation raise $7,450 on Sunday for the Huntington's Disease Clinic that is being developed at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.
Included in the $7,450 was a $1,000 donation made by the IceHogs Booster Club as they made a check presentation to Dr. Mitch King, the college of medicine's associate dean for academic affairs. The check was made in the name of IceHogs center Jake Dowell, whose father and brother both suffer from Huntington's Disease.
All 32 lanes at Cherry Bowl in Cherry Valley were full as the entire IceHogs team and coaching staff bowled with IceHogs fans at the event. Participants bowled three games of 9 Pin followed by an autograph session with the team.
The event was sponsored by H & R Block, Northwoods Care Centre, Maple Care Centre, Alpha Controls and Services, LLC, Rockford Christian Schools, Rockfordnightout.com, Rock Valley Culligan, Van Sickle & McLaughin, WTVO and FOX 39.
The IceHogs Charitable Foundation has helped contribute nearly $600,000 to local not-for-profit organizations and schools in Northern Illinois since the team's inception in 1999. The Foundation's largest fundraiser is the IceHogs' Annual Jersey Auction, which is this Saturday, March 27.
Next Home Game: Friday, March 26 vs. Peoria Rivermen. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Rivermen meet for the final time in 2009-10, the teams' tenth overall meeting. The first 2,500 fans to the MetroCentre will receive an IceHogs Zamboni courtesy of ESPN Radio 1380 and FOX 39.
