Moose Yearling Foundation Donates $50,000 To Variety For Heritage
March 22, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation is proud to announce they have donated $50,000 to Variety to support the Variety Heritage Adventure Park (VHA) currently under constructing at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg.
The park, which is scheduled to be unveiled later this year, will be a unique, world-class play park built within an area measuring approximately 50 metres by 55 metres and will be located northeast of the Manitoba Children's Museum and just south of the future Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
The VHAP will provide rewarding and memorable recreational and educational opportunities for visitors in a unique and interactive environment. There will numerous aspects to the park, including play structures, a water feature, as well as a small outdoor performance area. The heritage themes and other key Forks stories (e.g. floods, archaeology) will play an important educational role for families and school groups as visitors will be able to imagine being part of a vibrant meeting place among First Nations people, picture themselves trading and exploring with the adventurers, helping build the first permanent European settlement in the Canadian West, and sharing the vision of the men and women who foresaw Winnipeg as the transportation hub of the West. The playground will be designed to entertain and engage both the active participants and those who are passively attending such as caregivers. It will entice repeat use in all seasons and at varying times of the day and evening.
Variety is a non-disease specific children's charity and therefore has the opportunity to assist children who may be impacted by physical and/or emotional disabilities, health related challenges, and/or socio-economic issues.
The Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation is the official charity of the Manitoba Moose Hockey Club. The Yearling Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises money year round and provides funding to a variety of registered children's charities in Manitoba. Since its inception in 1996, the Yearling Foundation has raised and disbursed over 2.1 million dollars. Most recently, it raised over $50,000 at its most successful Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation Gala Dinner ever held March 16th at MTS Centre.
