TACOMA, Wash. - Sebastien Boucher and Adam Jones each went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Tacoma, Brad Thomas scattered five hits and fanned seven and the Tacoma Rainiers won the final game of a three-game series 5-2 on Friday night at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma overcame an early two-run deficit to spoil Portland's chance to sweep their first series of the season.

Kameron Mickolio and Julio Mateo combined for 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief for the Rainiers. Mateo struck out one in a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save of the season.

Luke Carlin went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI double to lead the Portland offense. Portland took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Carlin drove in Frank Menchino and later scored on a passed ball, but the Beavers could not get another run across despite leaving 11 runners on base.

Tacoma responded with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead. The Rainiers (34-48) added two runs in the eighth inning for the final margin. The top four hitters in the Tacoma lineup, including Boucher, Jeremy Reed, Jones and Bryan LaHair, were a combined 10-for-16 with four runs scored and three RBIs.

Thomas (2-5) allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings, tying a season high with seven strikeouts to earn the win.

Portland starter Mike Thompson (2-7) pitched all eight innings for Portland in the losing effort, allowing five runs and twelve hits while striking out three.

Portland (37-44) travels to Colorado Springs to open a four-game series against the Sky Sox beginning Saturday night. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: Beavers relief pitcher Andrew Brown was traded to the Oakland A's on Friday in exchange for outfielder Milton Bradley ...Brown was 2-3 with a 2.78 ERA in 32 appearances with the Beavers, striking out 45 in 35 2/3 innings ... Thompson has pitched at least six innings in each of his last six starts. In his first six starts of the year, his longest outing was five innings ...Portland's last series sweep was May 9-12, 2006, when they took four straight from Albuquerque at PGE Park... Royce Huffman's single in the seventh inning extended his hitting streak to eight games ... Portland is now 4-2 against Tacoma on the season.
