Beavers Win Despite Rain

TACOMA, Wash. - Ryan Ketchner earned his first victory of the season, throwing seven strong innings, striking out nine while surrendering only four hits. Vincent Sinisi went 4-for-4 with three RBIs as the Beavers defeated the Rainiers 7-2 Thursday night in eight innings in a rain-shortened game.

Craig Stansberry went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. It was Stansberry's eighth clout of the season.

Recent roster addition Drew Macias tallied his first hit as a Beaver, going 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Tacoma struck first in the bottom of the second inning when catcher Jeff Clement hit a two-run home run off Ketchner, his 14th of the season.

The Beavers quickly leveled the score on a two RBI single by Sinisi in the top of the third inning. Stansberry then gave the Beavers a 5-2 advantage with a three-run home run over the leftfield wall, his eighth of the season.

In the top of the seventh inning, Sinisi gave Portland a 6-2 lead with an RBI single, scoring Ray Chang from second base.

The Beavers added another insurance run in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI from designated hitter Pete Laforest.

The sky then opened up during the bottom of the eighth inning and the umpires decided to end the game as it stood.

The Beavers wrap up their series with Tacoma Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Cheney Stadium.

NOTES: Pitcher Jack Cassel was selected to represent the Beavers in the 2007 Triple-A All-Star Game, which takes place July 11 in Albuquerque ... pitcher Mike Thompson was optioned back to Portland on Thursday after being recalled on Wednesday ... outfielder Josh Alley was transferred to Class A San Antonio.
