Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Round Rock finished off a sweep of Memphis Friday night with a 2-1 win in front of 11,168 fans at AutoZone Park.
The Express scratched out a run in the seventh inning off reliever Kelvin Jimenez to take the lead. Josh Anderson greeted Jimenez with a single and scored on Tim Raines, Jr.'s single through a drawn-in infield. Anderson led Round Rock with three hits. Jason Lane drove in the team's first run with a single in the first inning.
Memphis' lone run came on Joe Mather's home run in the fifth inning. The solo shot was Mather's second since joining the club last week. Mike McCoy doubled to start the game but did not score as the 'Birds left six men on base in the game.
Jimenez took the loss for the Redbirds after allowing one run on two hits in one inning of work. Miguel Asencio picked up the win out of the Round Rock bullpen. He tossed a scoreless sixth inning to earn his first win of the year. Travis Driskill nailed down his second save of the series and fourth of the season.
The Redbirds season-worst losing streak was extended to seven games and is the worst losing streak the 'Birds have experienced since dropping seven straight last July. Memphis finished the June home schedule with a 2-13 record.
The 'Birds will begin a four-game series at New Orleans tomorrow night. Tomo Ohka will make his third start for Memphis and oppose the Zephyrs Philip Humber. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
