Sounds sweep Isotopes

Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

John Gall collected three hits-including an eighth inning home run-but Nashville had too much offense for Albuquerque Friday night, as the Sounds (48-33) knocked off the Isotopes (39-42) 10-2 to complete the series sweep at Isotopes Park.

The Sounds scored 10 times between the second and fifth innings, never trailing in the contest. The Isotopes managed just six hits on the night, and scored via two solo home runs. Scott Seabol hit his 18th blast of the season in the second inning-a bomb that pulled the Isotopes to within a run at the time and marked Seabol's third in as many games.

Gall would account for the second solo homer of the night, an eighth inning shot. By that time, though, the game was well out of reach, with Albuquerque trailing by nine runs. The home run did, though, complete a day at the plate for Gall that included three hits, as he fell just a triple short of the cycle.

The Sounds got to Albuquerque starter Seth Etherton early and the Isotopes never did recover. Etherton (0-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs-though just three earned-on seven hits over 3.1 innings. Etherton walked three and punched out two. After Etherton's exit, Jesus Silva came on and finished the final 5.2 frames. Silva, added to Albuquerque's roster on Friday, allowed two runs on seven hits. He struck out two and didn't issue a free pass.

Nashville received an excellent outing from its starter, Zach Jackson (9-3). The left-hander lasted seven innings, scattering a run on five hits. He walked two and punched out three to earn his ninth victory of the 2007 season. Dennis Sarfate entered in the eighth and finished things off. Sarfate tossed the final two innings, allowing a run on a hit. He walked one and struck out four.

After a quiet first, Nashville tapped Etherton for two runs in the second thanks to a two-run, two-out homer off the bat of Chris Barnwell. Albuquerque cut into the lead immediately, though. In the home half of the second, Seabol launched a blast deep over the wall in left on a 2-2 pitch to pull his club to within one.

From there, though, the Sounds offense pushed the game out of reach. Nashville scored five times in the third inning, added two more in the fourth and scored once again in the fifth to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

The game remained that way until the eighth, when Gall's homer made the score 10-2. That would be as close as the Isotopes would get, though.

The Isotopes begin a four-game set with the Iowa Cubs on Saturday night at Isotopes Park. In the opener, Jeff Fulchino (6-2, 5.83) gets the nod for Albuquerque. He'll face-off with I-Cubs righty John Webb (2-5, 5.22). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. On Saturday, Orbit Bobbleheads go to the first 3,000 fans into the ballpark, courtesy of Coca-Cola.

Still to come on this seven-game homestand are Isotope Cowbells, a Red, White & Blue Jersey Auction and a pair of fireworks shows in a pre-Independence Day celebration on July 2 and July 3. Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800.
