Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Oklahoma City - Lane Thomas hit three home runs for the Memphis Redbirds Saturday night as the Redbirds defeated the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 9-4, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

With the win, the Redbirds took a 2-0 lead in the three-game series between the teams and sent the Dodgers (48-57) to a third straight loss overall.

Thomas homered in the third, fifth and seventh innings Saturday, becoming the first Oklahoma City opponent to hit three homers in a game since Iowa's Bryan LaHair July 31, 2010 in Oklahoma City.

Memphis also continued the road team's success in the season series between the teams, marking the 13th time in 15 games between the teams the road team won in 2019.

The Redbirds (45-61) jumped out to the early lead, taking a 2-0 advantage in the second inning when Max Schrock hit a RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch by Dodgers starting pitcher Dennis Santana.

Edwin RÃ-os was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the second inning, advanced to third when Kyle Garlick hit a double and scored on a RBI single into right field by Drew Jackson to cut Memphis' lead to 2-1.

Edmundo Sosa led off the third inning with a solo homer out to center field for a 3-1 Memphis lead. Later with two outs, Thomas homered past the Dodgers' bullpen in left-center field for a 4-1 Redbirds advantage.

In the fourth inning, RÃ-os hit a solo homer out to left field that left the ballpark to cut Memphis' lead to 4-2. The home run was RÃ-os' team-leading 21st of the season with OKC.

In the fifth inning, back-to-back RBI doubles by Sosa and John Nogowski extended Memphis' lead to 6-2. Thomas' second home run of the night came later in the inning - a two-run shot out to center field - extended the Redbirds' lead to 8-2.

A RBI single by Connor Joe in the bottom of the inning cut Memphis' lead to 8-3. Zach Reks followed with a RBI double to cut Memphis' lead to four runs.

Thomas homered in a third straight at-bat in the seventh inning, leaving the ballpark with a shot out to left field for a 9-4 Memphis advantage. The home run was Thomas' 10th of the season, as he collected four RBI in the game.

Memphis starting pitcher Genesis Cabrera (4-4) picked up the win, allowing four runs and eight hits over 6.0 innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Santana (4-6) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) and seven hits in 5.0 innings with two walks and six strikeouts. The three home runs Santana allowed were a career high.

The three-game series wraps up at 6:05 p.m. on a Chaparral Energy Family Sunday featuring pregame player autographs, a mascot meet-and-greet, face painters, inflatables and postgame kids run the bases.
