Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies (53-52) dropped the series-opener to the Reno Aces (46-59) on Friday evening by an 11-7 final, the first of three this weekend at Chukchansi Park.
Reno's 14-hit attack included a two-run homer by the rehabbing Blake Swihart in the fourth inning, and a three-run shot by Travis Snider in the sixth.
It was far more than required for Aces right-hander Joel Payamps, who scattered six hits and two walks over five innings.
The Grizzlies' first run came in the third inning, when Jake Noll extended his season-best hit streak to 11 games with a leadoff single, eventually scoring on a two-out RBI knock by Raudy Read. Noll is 20-for-45, (.444) during the streak, following a three-hit night on Friday. In the sixth, Collin Cowgill chipped in a two-run homer, his 10th of the season. Yadiel Hernandez drilled an opposite field home run to left in the eighth, his 20th. Read rounded out the scoring for the night by homering into the pool in left-center to leadoff the home ninth, his 14th of the season.
Coupled with Sacramento's home win over Tacoma, Fresno slipped four games back of the Pacific Northern Division's Playoff berth, with 35 to play.
