Kearney, Ne. - Alex Gilmour deflected the go-ahead goal past Jake Kielly early in the third, spearheading the Des Moines Buccaneers past the Tri-City Storm, 4-2, Saturday from the Viaero Event Center.
Starting from the right point, James Gobetz ripped a puck from the point and Gilmour reached his stick out, elevating the puck over Kielly at the 5:45 mark of the final frame.
The Bucs added an empty net goal from Patrick Grasso to seal it with 26 seconds remaining.
The loss, Tri-City's first in regulation this season, dropped the club to 3-1-0-1, good for seven points.
Des Moines broke the ice with the game's first goal at the 15:03 mark of the first. David Keefer wristed a shot from the left circle past Jake Kielly, assisted by Georgie Gorodetsky.
Monte Graham needed 61 seconds to even the game, receiving a centering feed from the right goal line from Brian Hawkinson and pitching it to the back of it net. Both Graham and Hawkinson earned their first USHL points.
Nikita Pavlychev struck for the tie-breaking at 18:34 of the first, taking a left wing feed from Justin Howell. Brendan Demler got the secondary assist.
The teams combined for three goals over a 3:31 mark of the first.
Wade Allison knotted the game at two with his first goal of the season at 8:38 of the second, striding up the right wing and snapping a shot from the low right circle.
Allison had six goals and 13 points for the Storm in 35 games last season.
The Viaero Event Center prepares for Color Out Cancer Night, presented by Midway Auto Dealerships, next Friday, October 16, at 7:30 p.m. against Lincoln. The event benefits local organizations fighting cancer.
Come and paint the ice on Thursday from 4-10 p.m. and inscribe messages on the ice to those fighting cancer at the Viaero Event Center.
Saturday, October 17 is "Minions Night" with a 7 p.m. game division rival Omaha.
