Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE - The Omaha Lancers, in conjunction with their 30th Anniversary season, unveiled their first-ever Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony in front of a sellout crowd at Ralston Arena on Friday night, naming seven to the inaugural class.
FRED KNIPSCHEER - The first inductee accomplished a number of firsts for the Omaha Lancers. He put up 84 points in 48 games played, helped lead the Lancers to their first Clark Cup Championship, and is the first Omaha Lancer to ever play in the NHL.
JED ORTMEYER - Born to be a leader on the ice, Ortmeyer has been a captain in the USHL, NCAA, and NHL ranks. He is a Clark Cup Champion, and had a professional career that spanned a decade. Ortmeyer was also the first Omaha native to the NHL.
BRENDAN WALSH - No player has been a better embodiment of what it is to be an Omaha Lancer then Brendan Walsh. A fan-favorite at Ak-sar-ben Coliseum, Walsh thrilled fans for two years with his stick and his "fear-no-man" style of play while capturing a Clark Cup Championship.
DAN ELLIS - No Omaha Lancer player has redefined the goaltending position quite like Dan Ellis. He shattered the USHL team and individual shutout record, posting a shutout every five games. Ellis then played for the University of Nebraska-Omaha and has an ongoing pro career that has spanned 12 seasons.
PAUL STASTNY - Paul Stastny boasts one of the most impressive careers of any player to wear the orange and black. After two years lighting the lamp for the Omaha Lancers, Stastny won an NCAA Championship, was nominated as the NHL Rookie of the Year, has been an NHL All-Star, and is a two-time Olympian.
MATT CARLE - After his time patrolling the blue line at the Mid-America Center, Carle continued to shine, winning and NCAA Championship and the Hobey Baker award. Carle then went on to an NHL career that has seen him land on the All-Rookie Team and twice in the Stanley Cup Finals.
MIKE HASTINGS - Our final inductee should not surprise anyone. Leading the Omaha Lancers on the bench for nearly half of the franchise's existence, he sets a lofty standard of excellence at any level he works. Hastings is a three-time Anderson Cup Champion, three-time Clark Cup Champion, and two-time National Champion. In only three season as an NCAA head coach, Hastings has been voted coach of the year twice.
The Omaha Lancers hit the road tonight to face the defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede inside the Denny Sanford Premier Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and fans can listen live beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Valpak Pregame Show on "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL, Mighty 1290 KOIL Mobile APP, www.mighty1290koil.com, and FASTHockey.com.
