The Capitols snapped a two-game season opening skid on Friday, potting six goals from six different sources in a 6-4 win over the Green Bay Gamblers.
The Capitols quickly hit the road for a Saturday night matchup in Muskegon against the defending Eastern Conference champion Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop on Saturday from the L.C. Walker Arena is set for 6:15 p.m. CT and can be heard on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM The Zone. It can also be heard via the TuneIn radio app or online at www.madcitysportszone.com.
The Capitols were opportunistic on Friday, scoring six goals on just 26 shots on goal. Overall, through three games, Madison has 12 goals on just 76 shots on net.
Head Coach Troy G. Ward's team has continued its dominance at the beginning of games, scoring the first goal for a third straight time an evening ago courtesy of Charlie Gerard.
Ryan Lohin is pacing the offense with four points in his first three games, while Sam McCormick has added three points in two games to start the season. Four different Capitols registered multi-point nights on Friday, and Haralds Egle, Gerard, and Daniel Willett each picked up their first goals of the young season.
Tyson McLellan also continued his strong start to his Capitols' career, potting his third goal in as many games on a steal and score from the slot area.
In goal, Garrett Metcalf shook off a performance in Cedar Rapids that saw him get removed in the first period, making 23 saves en route to his first victory of the season.
The Capitols and Lumberjacks met in Madison's first ever USHL game on Sept. 27 of last year, a game Muskegon won by a final count of 4-3. The two clubs split six meetings in the 2014-15 season overall, with two of those needing extra time to determine the outcome. The Capitols are 1-1-1 in the prior encounters at the L.C. Walker Arena.
The Capitols keep the road trip bus moving next weekend as they visit the U.S. U17 National Team Development Program. Puck drop on Oct. 16-17 from Plymouth, Mich. is set for 6 p.m. CT each night.
Madison returns to the Alliant Energy Center on Oct. 23 for a three-game weekend set against the Chicago Steel & Bloomington Thunder. Tickets for each game are available by calling (608) 257-CAPS or visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com.
