Third out Elusive in Harrisburg

Harrisburg scored all five runs with two outs and a potential late rally fell short for Bowie as they Baysox dropped their series opener in Harrisburg 5-1 on Monday night.

Starter Zach Davies battled with control have being skipped in the rotation due to neck stiffness prior to his last start. Davies entered the game with a scoreless innings streak of 19 but that came to a halt at 21 and 2/3rd innings with an unearned run in the third inning.

In the fourth Davies nearly danced out of a jam. After a leadoff double, Davies struck out consecutive batters but then walked catcher Brian Jeroloman before facing 2B Adrian Sanchez. The Senators number nine-hole hitter got into one, lifting a three-run home run to left field to give Harrisburg a 4-0 lead.

Bowie threatened only twice in the game. In the sixth inning, LF KD Kang, 3B Niuman Romero and 1B Christian Walker all singled consecutively. Bowie got a SAC fly from CF Dariel Alvarez to get on the board but nothing more.

In the ninth inning the Baysox got three singles to load the bases bringing up the possible tying run with two down. SS Garabez Rosa hit a solid line drive to right field but it hung up for Harrisburg's Kevin Keyes who made the catch to end the game.

Before the game, Baysox reliever Julio DePaula was called up to the big leagues. SS Sharlon Schoop went on the disabled list and infielder Sammie Starr was called up from Advanced-A Frederick. Chris Marrero went 1-for-4 in his first game back to Harrisburg after having played three years with the Senators (2009-10, 2012).

The Baysox are back at it Tuesday night, July 8th at 7:00 p.m. with LHP Jake Pettit on the hill looking to build on a strong start his last time out. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.
